Permission granted for replacing metallic cladding of a university student accommodation block in Southend

Full planning permission has been granted by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, for replacing the metallic cladding in four neutral shades to the upper storeys of a university student accommodation block in Southend. The cladding colours will be mixed together to create a more interesting small fish scale pattern on the elevations moving away from the brighter geometrical pattern of the existing Trespa panels.

We argued that the proposed new cladding will give the building a new lease of life and the changed colour scheme and finish are compatible with the town centre location and would not result in any significant harm to the character and appearance of the site, the streetscene and the area more widely.

The LPA concluded that the proposal was found to be acceptable and compliant with the relevant planning policies and guidance. As there are no other material planning considerations which would justify reaching a different conclusion, it was recommended that planning permission be granted subject to conditions.
