Planning Application submitted for backland development in Canterbury

A householder application for the erection of a one and half storey self-build dwelling and car port has been submitted to Canterbury City Council. The scheme features eco-credentials including solar photovoltaic panels and a rainwater heating system.

The architectural approach to the design, layout and materials has been to respect the importance of the setting of the conservation area and to recognise the sensitivity of the site and its former function as agricultural land. The dwelling is proposed in an ‘Old Kent Barn’ style and finished with black weather boarding and red clay tiles. Due to the rise in the land, the proposal has been carefully designed to ensure the property sits comfortably behind the existing dwellings and is screened from the main road.
